It is with great joy that I present the first online edition of the Nigerian Journal of Orthopaedics and Trauma, the Journal of the Nigerian Orthopaedic Association. The journal underwent some major changes in 2017 with the negotiation and signing of a journal management contract with Wolters Kluwer India Private Limited. Before the contract, the journal had been produced locally. This had come with its attendant problems such as delayed editions. The contract thus became necessary. Part of the contract includes the creation and maintenance of on online journal system. Article submissions and processing are all done online with the new system. The system also enables quicker review of submitted articles with alarm prompts, timed SMS texts and E-mails to reviewers.

Coincidentally, this first online edition is my first solo edition as the editor-in-chief of this journal though I had worked with the immediate past editor-in-chief to clear all outstanding back issues. We are also working together to archive all back issues online for ease of access by the authors and researchers. This edition features articles from various parts of the world ranging from articles on trauma, orthopaedic subspecialisation to articles on deformity correction using the linear rail system.

We aim to drive the journal forwards quickly by making use of emerging technological tools. We are focussed also to place the journal in the forefront of academic publishing and achieving a decent impact factor quickly. Our initial review time currently runs to an average of 2–3 weeks. We hope to make this shorter in due course.

Our pledge is to continue to work hard to reciprocate the trust our authors and readers repose in us.
